Castle Coole stands as Ireland's finest neo-classical building, a perfectly proportioned mansion representing the pinnacle of 18th-century architectural achievement. Designed by James Wyatt for the 1st Earl of Belmore, built 1789-1797 using specially imported Portland stone.
State Rooms and Interiors
The State Rooms display decoration schemes unchanged since the Regency period. The Oval Saloon features perfect proportions and delicate plasterwork. The State Bedroom contains a magnificent bed created for George IV's planned visit.
The Greylag Goose Colony
Castle Coole's lough supports Ireland's only non-migratory flock of greylag geese, established here since the 1700s.
