Belfast City

Belfast City

In the city - Belfast is the starting point for most Northern Ireland tours

Belfast defies expectations. This is a city that many visitors approach cautiously, carrying mental images of news footage from the Troubles, only to discover a vibrant, welcoming, creative capital that has transformed itself into one of Europe's most exciting urban destinations. Northern Ireland's capital combines Victorian industrial grandeur with contemporary creativity, political history with cultural renaissance, and maritime heritage with modern confidence. From the world-class Titanic Belfast museum to the powerful political murals, from Victorian pubs to contemporary restaurants, from the Cathedral Quarter's artistic energy to the peace walls' sobering history, Belfast tells stories that are complex, honest, and ultimately hopeful. This is a city that was once defined by conflict but has emerged as a symbol of transformation – a place where history is acknowledged rather than hidden, where different communities are learning to share space, and where a new generation is writing a different story. Belfast rewards visitors who look beyond the headlines to discover a city with character, warmth, and a future as compelling as its past.

Giant's Causeway

Giant's Causeway

90-minute drive (60 miles) along the scenic Causeway Coastal Route

Standing on the Giant's Causeway feels like standing at the intersection of mythology and geology, where ancient volcanic forces created something so perfectly geometric it seems almost impossible, and where legend offers explanations that feel just as plausible as science. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, featuring approximately 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, represents Northern Ireland's most iconic natural wonder and one of the world's most extraordinary geological formations. The hexagonal columns, stepping down into the sea like a giant's staircase, were formed 60 million years ago when molten basalt erupted through chalk beds and cooled so rapidly it crystallized into these perfect geometric shapes. Yet the legend of the giant Finn MacCool, who built the causeway to reach his rival in Scotland, captures imaginations just as powerfully as the scientific explanation. Today, the Giant's Causeway attracts visitors from around the world who come to walk these ancient stones, photograph the dramatic coastal scenery, and experience one of those rare places where nature's power and beauty are immediately, overwhelmingly evident. Whether you believe in giants or geology, the effect is the same – awe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about booking your perfect Northern Ireland tour experience

How do I book a tour with Belfast Tour Company?

Booking is easy! Call us at 07935 255781 or email [email protected] for instant booking and custom tour requests. We typically respond within 2-4 hours during business hours. For last-minute bookings or specific questions, call us directly for the fastest response. All tours are per group booking (max 7 people per vehicle) - if less than 7 people, we can accommodate better fees.

What is included in the tour price?

All our tours include: private transportation in a luxury Mercedes vehicle, expert local guide (Michael or our certified team), flexible itinerary, bottled water, and Wi-Fi on board. Entry fees to attractions (like Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge) are not included unless specified. We can also arrange meals at excellent local restaurants along the route.

Can you customize tours to my interests?

Absolutely! Customization is one of our specialties. Whether you're interested in Game of Thrones filming locations, whiskey distilleries, golf courses, genealogy research, or photography spots, we'll create a personalized itinerary just for you. Many of our most memorable tours are completely custom-designed around our guests' passions and preferences.

What is your cancellation policy?

We offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before your tour start time for a full refund. For cancellations within 24 hours, a 50% fee applies. No-shows are non-refundable. Weather-related cancellations are handled case-by-case to ensure your safety and enjoyment. We understand plans change and work to be as flexible as possible.

How many people can fit in your vehicles?

We operate a fleet of luxury Mercedes vehicles. Our sedans comfortably accommodate up to 3 passengers, while our vans can carry up to 7 passengers. All vehicles are meticulously maintained, climate-controlled, and equipped with modern amenities. For larger groups, we can arrange multiple vehicles with coordinated guides.

Are your tours suitable for children and elderly travelers?

Yes! We welcome travelers of all ages. Our tours are adaptable to different mobility levels and interests. For families with young children, we adjust pacing and include child-friendly stops. For elderly guests or those with mobility concerns, we minimize walking and ensure accessible routes. Just let us know any special requirements when booking.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Northern Ireland weather can be unpredictable, but that's part of its charm! Our tours run rain or shine - we provide umbrellas and recommendations for weather-appropriate clothing. Many attractions are beautiful in any weather. However, if severe weather makes travel unsafe (rare), we'll work with you to reschedule or provide a full refund.

Do you offer airport pickup and drop-off?

Absolutely! We provide convenient airport transfer services from both Belfast International Airport and George Best Belfast City Airport. Many guests combine airport pickup with a half-day tour, making efficient use of their time. We also offer cruise port pickups from Belfast Harbor and can coordinate with your ship's schedule.

Is Giant's Causeway worth visiting?

Absolutely! The Giant's Causeway is one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the world - a UNESCO World Heritage Site with over 40,000 interlocking basalt columns formed by ancient volcanic activity. The coastal scenery is breathtaking, and the legends surrounding it are fascinating. We recommend allowing 2-3 hours to fully explore the site and visitor center.

Can we visit Game of Thrones filming locations?

Yes! Northern Ireland was home to over 25 Game of Thrones filming locations. Our dedicated GoT tour takes you to iconic spots like the Dark Hedges (King's Road), Ballintoy Harbor (Iron Islands), Cushendun Caves (where Melisandre gave birth to the shadow), and many more. We share behind-the-scenes stories and can arrange photo opportunities with props and costumes.

What makes your tours different from large bus tours?

Our tours are completely private and personalized. Unlike large bus tours with 50+ people following a rigid schedule, you'll travel in a luxury Mercedes with just your group. We can stop for photos whenever you want, spend more time at places you love, skip sites that don't interest you, and share local stories and recommendations you won't find in guidebooks. It's like exploring with a knowledgeable friend, not a tour bus.

Do you accommodate special dietary requirements?

Yes! If your tour includes meal stops, we can recommend and arrange restaurants that cater to vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, kosher, or other dietary needs. Belfast and Northern Ireland have excellent food scenes with options for all dietary requirements. Just let us know your needs when booking.

What should I bring on the tour?

We recommend: comfortable walking shoes (some destinations involve uneven terrain), weather-appropriate clothing (layers are best), camera or smartphone, sunglasses, and any personal medications. We provide bottled water and umbrellas. For longer tours, you may want snacks, though we'll stop at cafes and restaurants along the way.

Are gratuities expected?

Gratuities are not included in the tour price and are never expected, but they are always appreciated for exceptional service. If you feel your guide went above and beyond to make your experience memorable, a tip of 10-15% is customary but entirely at your discretion.

Can you help with multi-day itinerary planning?

Absolutely! We offer 2-3 day comprehensive Northern Ireland tours covering everything from Giant's Causeway and the Antrim Coast to Belfast's political history and Derry/Londonderry's walled city. We can also provide recommendations for accommodations, restaurants, and evening activities. Many guests book us for their entire Northern Ireland stay for a seamless, stress-free experience.
